Near Island Trails

Mission: Create sustainable trail systems throughout the archipelago.

Project Dates: 2009-present

Summary:
Since 2009 ITN has built one half mile of trail in Rotary Park in an attempt to provide a link between North End and South End parks (Phase I and II). With that objective met, ITN has focused on completing the trail around Near Island first proposed in the 1987 Near Island comprehensive plan. Phases III, IV and V will involve construction of about a mile of new trail along the island's west (inland) side and are hoped to be complete by 2017, realizing the community vision set forth 30 years earlier.

Funding Partners: Kodiak Rotary, Alaska Legislature

In-kind Partners:  City of Kodiak, Alaska State Parks, Koniag Inc.
