Connecting Community

Mission: Create sustainable trail systems throughout the archipelago.

Project Dates:  August 2019-Present

Summary:  Island Trails Network is proud to partner with a new group called Connecting Community.
Founded in 2018 by ITN board member Eric Linscheid and Sandra West, CC is a grassroots group of trail enthusiasts who have set out to build a multi-use path between the USCG main gate and Lake Louise housing.  Because of our common purpose and shared vision for a multi-purpose pathway that connects all of Kodiak's residential areas, ITN is assisting Connecting Community with outreach, fundraising and public relations through a Memorandum of Agreement.

Already, with the help of dozens of volunteers, Connecting Community has identified an existing route, identified needed improvements and cleared vegetation from all except 100' of the proposed trail.  The next stage of construction requires the purchase of gravel for tread surfacing.

The near-term goal is to complete
the path from the U.S.C.G main gate to Peterson Elementary School.  Your donation will accomplish the following:

1 foot for $10
5 feet for $50
10 feet for $100
100 feet for $1000

If these categories don't quite fit you, any amount you wish to donate will help create a smile for path users.

All funds, less 10% for administration, will go DIRECTLY to fuel the construction of this trail.  Any leftover funds at the end of 2019 will  be applied toward continuing the path next Spring of 2020 from Lake Louise housing to the Peterson Elementary Path.

In-kind Partners:  U.S. Coast Guard, Alaska State Parks
