Applicable State
Laws
Tort Immunity describes legal
protection afforded landowners who permit recreational or
conservational easements across their property. Useful
for conjoining disconnected trails into a trail network!
Generally Allowed Uses describes what
you can and cannot do on state-owned lands not under any special
management category. Please use our public resources
wisely.
This
Legal Access checklist helps you
determine whether you can legally access a trail on state or
private lands.
Trail Survey (2004)
The most
comprehensive trail study on Kodiak to date. (2 MB)
Stream
Crossings
Crossing anadromous fish
streams in an ATV or other wheeled vehicle is illegal unless
specifically authorized by ADF&G. Many such areas exist on
the Kodiak trail system. Please be a responsible rider and
do your part to protect Kodiak's rich salmon resources and
pristine rivers--do not cross a stream except at an authorized
site. Doing so requires a mandatory court appearance and may result in a fine of up to $1000.

Marine Debris -
Stewardship of our Water Trails
The
Marine Conservation Alliance Foundation and Island Trails
Network are conducting an aerial survey of marine debris on the islands
of the Kodiak archipelago from the Trinity islands to Shuyak
island, and have conducted several large-scale clean-ups. We need your help in identifying which areas are most
heavily affected by floating ocean waste, and volunteers to help
clean them up. Click

Trail Classification Standards
For non-motorized trails, this
matrix was created by the US Forest Service, Adopted by Alaska
Trails and is becoming accepted statewide for trail engineering
& maintenance. Click
