Patrick Saltonstall 
President & Founding director.

Patrick is curator of the Alutiiq museum in Kodiak and a registered professional archaeologist.  He holds a BA from Harvard University and a MA from the University of Wisconsin.  He serves on the borough Parks & Recreation committee and recently completed service on the Alaska State Parks advisory board where he advocated for land use easements and trail creation.  Patrick is an accomplished cross-country and downhill skier, boasting a ski ascent of Mt. Shishaldin, several first descents on Kodiak and skiing 209 days one year. Patrick and his wife Zoya have a 3-year old daughter Nora, 1 year old son Stuart, and 2 dogs.

Pam Foreman
Vice President & Founding Director

Pam works as Community Relations Director for the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce.  Originally from Minnesota, she has made the island her home for 18 years and spent as much of that time as possible outside. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, birding, wildlife viewing, fishing and camping.  Pam writes and produces a weekly radio show on outdoor events called Island Byways,and serves on the KIB Parks & Recreation Committee.  Pam's emphasis in serving on the board is building partnerships with land owners and agencies to preserve public access to existing trails, beaches and waterways.

Sara Persselin
Secretary


Sara came to Kodiak in 2000 to work as a crab research biologist for NOAA Fisheries, but in 2009 decided to take a break from the crabs. From 2010 to 2011 she served as Kodiak’s Invasive Plant Coordinator for the Alaska Association of Conservation Districts, a one-year position funded by the Recovery Act.  Currently, she is being full-time mom to her son Theo.  What she loves most is paddling her kayak in Kodiak’s waters and camping on its shores. She has initiated her husband Steve into the joys of kayaking, and looks forward to taking Theo on his first kayaking trip.  When she can’t be paddling she also enjoys hiking, yoga, running, cross-country skiing, gardening and traveling to warm places to go scuba diving. Sara earned a BS in zoology from the University of California at Davis and an MS in biology from the University of Guam.

Sara Francis
Treasurer

Sara is a petty officer first class in the U.S. Coast Guard and supervisor of the District 17 Public Affairs Detachment in Kodiak. She has been in Alaska for eight years. Sara grew up in Colorado's Rocky Mountains and has always had an affinity for the outdoors. She treks Kodiak with her daughter Abbey and their dog Oberon. She recently began kayaking.

David George 

Dave is a native of the West Virginia mountains. He recently moved to Alaska with his wife Rebecca, a registered nurse, via Hawaii and Northern California. He serves as the Readiness Officer at the Coast Guard Base Support Unit in Kodiak where he currently assesses environmental remediation and manages prevention for Alaska's coastal resources and shipping lanes. He joined the Coast Guard in 1996 which enabled him to travel extensively and respect the seas. He and Rebecca are enjoying the outdoor adventures Kodiak has to offer especially fishing, hiking, and running. Dave is a competitive cross-country off-road motorcycle racer and enjoys Motocross.

Philip Tschersich 

Philip has lived in Kodiak since 1990, first commercial fishing for salmon and halibut, and then completing his Master's Degree though UAF at the Fisheries Industrial Technology Center on Near Island.   Since 1999 he has worked the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in salmon management on the Alaska Peninsula, and more recently as a marine research biologist for crab and groundfish in Kodiak.   An enthusiastic and active user of the Kodiak area trails, about ten years ago he wrote a mountain biking guide for the Kodiak local trail network, which is now on its fourth edition. In researching the book and his personal pursuit of outdoor recreation he has traveled and documented most of the existing trails on the Kodiak road system.  In addition to his road system travels, he has been all throughout the archipelago on fishing and research vessels, by sea kayak, and has hiked solo across Kodiak Island.

Chris Windnagle

Chris is the leading chief for the U.S. Coast Guard Alaska Patrol Division (ALPAT) at Air Station Kodiak.  He grew up in northern Michigan where he spent his free time running, hunting and fishing.  After joining the Coast Guard he moved back to Michigan where he met his wife Deanna.  They moved to Sitka, Alaska in 1992 with their three children who are now grown and on their own.  He enjoys running, endurance racing and and hiking in Kodiak's mountains.  An avid hunter, he chases trophy blacktail deer, mountain goat and duck and fishes the local streams.  He has a strong desire to ensure that local and use areas in Kodiak remain open to outdoor enthusisasts.  He possesses a B.S. from Purdue University.

Dan Urban

Dan works for the National Marine Fisheries service as a fisheries biologist, after a career with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. He holds a BS from the University of Wisconsin and a MS from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Dan has lived in Kodiak for 20 years and really enjoys the opportunities it provides for kayaking, biking, and hiking. Dan and his wife Kim have one dog and four chickens.
