MARINE DEBRIS REMOVAL
Shuyak Island

MISSION

  • Develop and promote stewardship, restoration and maintenance projects for trails.
  •

    PROJECT DATES

  • June 2008-July 2010
  • SUMMARY

  • This vessel-based marine debris clean-up involved several beaches on the northernmost island of the Kodiak archipelago, which was designated a state park after the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill. Twenty years later the oil on its shores had been replaced by marine debris. Three consecutive years of clean-up by ITN resulted in the removal of nearly 15,000 lbs of marine debris from this otherwise pristine shoreline.
