MARINE DEBRIS REMOVAL
Long Island

MISSION

  • Develop and promote stewardship, restoration and maintenance projects for trails.
  •

    PROJECT DATES

  • April 2008-present
  • SUMMARY

  • Long Island serves as a seawall to Kodiak city, buffering it from wind, knocking down easterly swells and capturing much of the debris that would otherwise land at Kodiak. This annual clean-up improves a beach of high recreational value, serves as a valuable monitoring site for marine debris accumulation over time and provides an annual retreat for the local boy scout troop.
